Just yesterday, Bluehost had a "hardware failure" that caused several users to lose every single file in their homedirs. There are no "courtesy backups" that they said they give on their features page. That means the 9 (very simple and static) sites I had running are gone until I can find the last versions uploaded (not including any changes I made through FTP, of course).

Has anybody has has any experience with BlueLayerHost???

At the moment I am with InMotion and as the support has been great, the prices aren´t always as friendly for a small business.
Love to hear your comments.

They got me today. 1000 table limit, they just started enforcing. So basically you can have no more then 11 joomla sites or maybe 60 wordpress sites. This was out of the blue, 3 days notice. Hardly unlimited. If the limit was 2000 or higher I could understand.

I can't believe what I am hearing. I am a webdeveloper and ALL of my clients are on Bluehost and Hostmonster. They have been consistently excellent over the last 4 years. I have zero complaints. Their customer support is the best. You think GoDaddy is better?! Good grief. I have filed multiple ICANN complaints aginst GoDaddy for illegal and unethical practices. You BlueHost bashers must have ulterior motives. You probably work for HostGator because everything you said about Bluehost is untrue. I work with them every single day. I know whereof I speak. You obviously do not.

The worst of all possible events just happened. Bluehost lost all my data, from 3 years of work.

3 years of stuff...websites, audio, video, pictures, programs, notes, records, web work. All gone. They "had a problem with the box last night" and they were "really sorry". No backups either, from their "Courtesy Backup" scheme. Nothing from last night, last week or last month.

All my stuff is lost for eternity.

The most basic service a host provider can offer is to keep your stuff when you store it on their hard drives. Didn't happen.

Reading all these comments sends shivers to my spine. I am also at tether with Bluehost. I really like Bluehost especially their customer service, however recently my account has been throttled for no apparent reason. Most of my domains are parked and I have 2 active domains one of which has not more than 200 absolute visitors per month.

What's confusing is a lot of forums and blogs seem to have switched in favour of Hostgator, but I had a quick chat with them yesterday and I can confirm that they too throttle accounts. This is what I was told and I quote " We only throttle processor speed for shared accounts and this 25% of the processors on the server for a max of 15 minutes".

This is exactly what Bluehost and Hostmonster does doesn't it? So what's the big deal with Hostgator? I am at cross-paths should I remain with Bluehost or find an alternative?

Please link me up I am seriously advocating for 'Unlimited hosting' to really mean 'Unlimited' | Follow this link to access the Facebook fan page | http://on.fb.me/pmfF3N

I would have to agree. They are terrible. I have been having nothing but problems with them for the last couple of years. Been a customer since 2006 as well. I think their adverting is misleading (Unlimited Storage / Data Transfer, etc). I would be very interested in forming a class action suit against them.

NO BLUEHOST!

I have been with them since 2006 & recently they have been nothing but problems! I found this post while searching for a new hosting company and couldn't resist putting in my two cents.

1. I had too many files on the server and had to delete some or my account would be deleted in 14 days. (not allowed over 50,000 files which includes individual email files)

2. I had too many SQL Databases & they SHUT DOWN MY SITE WITHOUT EVEN CONTACTING ME! (I don't remember how many I had, but it was less than 50). They claimed that I had "too many tables".

I only host 5 websites one of which is an online store and the others are just very basic Joomla sites. Two of which I don't even use.

I'm leaving Bluehost as soon as I find a new hosting company & if Hostgator is the same company... NOT going there either!

If Bluehost is going to treat a customer of FIVE YEARS without ANY I mean NO problems prior to a couple of months ago the way that I have been treated... I can only imagine how they are going to treat others!

I'm open to suggestions on other hosting companies... Thanks...

See this discussion -- Bluehost shut down a website without warning to the owner when a big company complained, and then turned over information about the owner without notice to the registrant, while comparing its customers "felons and crooks." (Judge has ruled in favor of the customers)

http://pubcit.typepad.com/clpblog/2011/05/bluehosts-servile-response-to-koch-industries-shows-it-is-an-unreliable-hosting-company.html

Bluehost has yet to respond to this criticism, but the company that got Bluehost to kick its customers in the teeth has this to say (see the update) http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0511/Caving_to_Koch.html

Thank you SO MUCH for this website!!! After getting royally screwed in other (non-hosting) internet purchases and services, I've gotten into the habit of googling "X complaints" and "X sucks" and "X bad experiences" despite the fact that it's the #1 listing (in a different color!) on the Wordpress site. I'm SO glad I found this site before investing any money. As far as you having an axe to grind--pshaw. I've been on the internet long enough to know that it's really obvious when one person has an unsubstatiated problem with a company/seller and when dozens of people are filing the same types of complaints over and over again. I'm quite sure that Bluehost has many happy customers. I'm just not willing to take the chance that I won't be one of them.
