Bluehost Downtime

Bluehost's Uptime Sucks

One of the most vital requirements for a successful, profitable and high-traffic website is to have the least amount of downtime possible.  For websites that deal in goods, depend on AdSense revenue, or simply want their website to be available as much as possible, having your page down for hours or days at a time can cost you a lot of money and frustration.

You’ll notice that Bluehost makes no uptime claims on their website; this can be either a good sign or a bad sign. It’s a good sign if you don’t like seeing companies lie about their 99.9999999% uptime, but it’s a bad sign because they don’t even have enough faith in themselves to give a number.

While no hosting company can provide 100% uptime, most have ways of minimizing your downtime to a very small percent.  In our experience, Bluehost sucks in this regard.  They cost us more money than any other hosting provider we’ve ever dealt with and our research has shown that we’re not the only ones tired of unexplained downtime.

Post your experiences with Bluehost’s downtime here.  While it may be too late for us, there are others out there who might find it helpful.

Bluehost Server Downtime is the norm. Bluehost is a problem and the only reason I’m with them is at the recommendation of Wordpress. Bluehost is terrible and a waste of money. I switched one blog to In Motion and it’s been nothing but good (until I link to a blog still on my Bluehost Account that is and found that the link is dead due to Bluehost Server Downtime again.
I found out that you can cancel your account with Bluehost and get a prorated refund. Realize that they will not get better but with their hosting sale to get new customers this will actually get worse if it can be believed.

I’m in the process of concluding a 3+ year long relationship with Bluehost hosting that can be summed up in a word…”TERRIBLE!” The 99.9% up time they advertise is an egregious lie in my experience.

Their support reps are nice but I honestly suspect the server my websites are hosted on is located underneath one of their desks as a footrest.

J. Sedwick, I am about to do the same. Too bad, I have been with them for almost 3 years. Their service is getting worse lately. Maybe I noticed it only now.

My blog has been growing quite a bit and I’m not in my second year of hosting with BlueHost. During the first year I thought they were very good but I’m finding more and more recently that there’s a large amount of downtime… I write this as my blog is down now – http://www.rhys.eu

It’s becoming more important to me that my blog stays online and available and it’s really annoying that potential readers can’t access… it makes me look bad!

I am terribly disappointed with bluehost service. Their frequent downtime is causing my website a great loss. I am not able to promote my website properly. They lie about their service quality. They utilize the CPU max most of the time. Their RAM free memory usually shows 256MB out of 16GB. You can imagine how terribly it makes our website run slow. And they have high SWAP number too. These are the signs that they are selling more things but not keeping their infrastructure at same pace.
I am looking for better alternatives…

What happened? I have been with them for more than 3 years. I have built over 20 sites on BlueHost. Now they are off line daily.
I am deeply invested in that host company.
But being down all of the time sucks. It may only last a few minutes but that is a lost customer when they hit the back button.
COME ON BLUE HOST!!!!! You must be making millions! Invest in technology!
Just sold another site and their hosting today….wish I had looked else where.
Blue host will take down any post on their forum if you do not sugar coat how great they are…..is that support.
Look for a different host company if you are wondering about them.

It’s down again today.
When it’s not down, it’s SSSSLLLLOOOOWWW. The control panel takes forever to load and the email clients are a joke. You have to log in three times if you want to use one of their clients and most of the time, it just takes me back to the main panel when I try to use their client. I’m going to ask them for my money back and move to another provider. IF they don’t comply I’m going to the Ohio AG office. I’m not going to tolerate this.

After fighting their slow, inept, down system for four hours today, I have decided to report them to my states attorney general’s office along with the Better Business Beaureau in all 50 states. If everyone here reports their honets experiences to their AG, maybe we can get Bluehost off of the net.

Server outages in the middle of the day, each day, for the last six months is becoming the norm. I would STRONGLY recommend that new users stay away from BlueHost as they just can’t deliver. My site has been down since 10:00 this morning. It’s now 1:25 PM. Nice job BlueHost.

Great, talking to a client on the phone, I say yeah go over those services on my website…..uhhh it is down….. again. Made me look bad.
And it is Friday – my busiest time of the week.
They have a 99.9% network up time guarantee…so I just sent them an email asking for what that guarantee is.
So no website up, no email sending or receiving, no Cpanel….my business could not get away with this, how can they keep getting away with this?
Gee what a bargain. Change name to the Blues Host!

I asked their support staff the same question they said “We do provide 99,9% network up-time, our network is currently up”. If they were to count server uptime it would be in the 75%.

Haven’t seen any user complaints about Bluehost yet, although we are probably bound to see some in the future. People tend to try and resolve things on the host side first, so hopefully before long this company will resolve most of these complaints.

Down again today. I can’t even access the website home page.

Try logging in via login.bluehost.com rather than http://www.domain.com/cpanel

Don’t use Bluehost!!!! I’m sick of their unplanned downtime. Also, I called them and even after being a loyal customer for 3+ years and hosting like 10 websites with them they wouldn’t offer me a partial refund for the past 3 months of abominable service!

For years I praised Bluehost’s uptime and customer service, but over the past year, their downtime is off the charts, and their so-called customer service representatives offer no answers as to why they keep going down or when the will be back up. Do NOT go with Bluehost. You will be sorry.

I’ve had a website on bluehost for only a couple of weeks. Already, my site has been down several times a week. This last week it has been down every single day, multiple times a day. I’m canceling my service today while I can still get most of my money refunded.

I have just sent off an email to the support as my site is down again. Second day in a row. If they don’t have the perfect answer, I am switching to an European provider instead. I see that there is quite a community around that.
